My artistic work is rooted in movement and visual storytelling, drawing on a foundation in dance and a background in film and visual art.
I trained in ballet, modern, and contemporary dance for 16 years in the US and Germany, I participated in some independent productions in Berlin and Paris. My transition to visual art was influenced by time spent in Paris and Hanoi in the late 1990s, where I began exploring themes of identity and the Vietnamese diaspora through video and photography, often incorporating performance elements. This work was featured in Gap Viet Nam, a seminal 1999 exhibition at Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin.
My interest in narrative development led me to study montage at the Hochschule für Film & Fernsehen (HFF) in Babelsberg, where I developed expertise in video editing and cinematic language. My diploma film Sunday Menu (fiction, 24 min.) premiered at the Berlinale International Film Festival in 2011 and was screened internationally. During this period, I also began working in writing and translation, which have become primary focuses of my current practice. Creative writing is a growing interest, as is the possibility of combining written and visual work again.
Below is an evolving selection of my work in visual/conceptual art & film. My art cv is available here.
